Sacrifice

For about 4 or 5 months now, we have been giving the boys $3/week each for allowance. They pick something they want to save their money for so they have a goal and they aren't just throwing it away on junk and candy (which they were doing at first).

Eli is saving his money for Heely shoes. I guess there is something appealing about rolling around everywhere instead of walking. Today, all of the boys had $6 saved, and Grant decided that he was just going to to give Eli $6 to go towards his Heely fund. We could not believe it. We told him that was very nice of him, but we couldn't for the life of us figure out why he would just give Eli money, but he wouldn't sacrifice his christmas stocking to help a poor family. So we asked him, but when Eric asked him he used the words "poor, sick family". Grant exclaimed, "Well, you didn't tell me they were SICK!" It is amazing how one word changed his whole heart. We did tell him that the family may not be sick, but they are poor and they can get sick if they don't have enough healthy food to eat. He has now totally surrendered his stocking and he gave his money to Eli. That is the sweet, compassionate boy I know. (I still don't know why he gave his money to Eli though!)
